OryCon pros create a story using audience ideas. Visiting pro authors create a story on the fly with audience participation. Hilarity ensues. A perennial OryCon favorite.
All good things come to an end, but sometimes they come to an end and are made into a completely different medium. But the question is: Which one is better?
The PDX Broadsides, former OryCon Guests of Honor, will make you laugh and cry with their blend of nerdy subjects and real emotion. From "The Girl Who Couldn't Even" to "The Astronaut's Hymn", see why these Portland originals are two-time Pegasus Award nominees! Also featuring Chuck Ting-Tingle.

As campaigns wear on, players accumulate a large amount of both stuff and background knowledge. Experienced GMs talk about systems they've used for keeping everything organized.

A discussion of what constitutes feminist film-making. The Bechdel Test originated in Alison Bechdel's comic from the '80s-'90s, "Dykes to Watch Out For." To pass, a film must feature at least 2 female characters, who talk, to each other, about something other than a man. Mako Mori is a lead character in "Pacific Rim," who is entirely strong and admirable, who is the heroine of the film, and who has a story arc that is not about her love-life. But "Pacific Rim" fails the Bechdel test; so, some have proposed a "Mako Mori Test" for films.

No matter whether it is consumed via broadband or broadcast, billboard or bus shelter, it is nearly impossible to ignore the constant stream of media imagery bombarding us all each day. Messages of hope, of despair, of commerce and compassion, it is easy to take this input at face value, to accept the image as presented--and the assumptions that come with it. This panel is about challenging those assumptions, in particular as they relate to fiction and popular media. Key topics will include race as a distraction from character default white and the proliferation of race blindness separate but equal for cosplayers The focus will be primarily on visible demarcations of Otherness during this discussion (race as a major talking point given our current social climate, but also key examples touching on gender, size, and mobility). This topic touches on a lot of sensitive points for many, many people, so expect open minds, tolerant hearts, and strong moderation.
